“Orthopedic surgeons wanted a hip replacement…”

Patient’s Journey Through Pain
For almost a year, Jenni had been trying everything from physical therapy to support pillows for her hip pain. Being a busy school teacher of young children, she needed to be able to keep up physically–getting down on the floor, sitting on tiny chairs, getting up. She couldn’t do any of those things without experiencing pain. It even caused her pain while she was trying to sleep. She’d roll over on the affected hip and wake up instantly. When the orthopedists recommended a hip replacement, that was the moment she knew she needed to switch gears. She happened to see a brochure in Dr. Ratio’s office about regenerative medicine. After doing more research on her own and meeting with our staff nurse practitioner for a consultation, she decided to give it a try.
Patient’s Treatment Experience
The treatment was to be a series of Human Cellular Tissue Product (HCT-P) injections along with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) to give her the maximum chance of getting relief from the chronic pain. Over the course of about 5 weeks, Ratio Wellness Nurse Practitioner Kristin Turnbull administered 3 injections in Jenni’s left hip, starting with PRP the first visit, then HCT-P the second visit, and PRP again on the third visit.
Patient’s Amazing Results
“I think after the first injection, I felt something,” says Jenni, about how quickly she noticed a difference. In the classroom, suddenly she was able to get up from the floor more quickly. After the second and third injections, the pain gradually improved further. Even just crossing her legs was easier. The video above was shot about 2 months after her last injection, and Jenni is just gushing about her recovery and the ease with which she can perform daily activities. “Going up a ladder–I wouldn’t even have dreamt of doing something like that before. And sleep is great again. It’s wonderful.” We’re so glad this treatment worked so well for Jenni! Now she can again enjoy her teaching duties with the ease of movement she once had. We continue to be excited about offering these new therapies that are improving people’s daily lives.
More about Regenerative Medicine
Regenerative medicine promotes the healing and repair of diseased, dysfunctional or injured tissue using both donated tissue or the body’s own natural biological materials. It can be particularly useful for patients who wish to avoid surgery or who no longer find relief from traditional treatments like cortisone injections. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. In this way, PRP injections use each individual patient’s own healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems. Human Cellular Tissue Product (HCT-P) therapy involves using stem cells from birth tissues donated by expectant mothers, which have the unique property of being able to develop into many different cell types, resulting in pain relief, reduced inflammation, and improved function of the affected area. Donated stem cell tissue is the ideal choice for individuals over the age of fifty who, due to the aging process, may have less viable regenerative components than a younger person.
